Al Nassr 5 – 2 Al Najma | Analysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this Al Nassr vs Al Najma match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

On paper, this was supposed to be just another routine match. In reality, Al Nassr made life far more difficult than seemed possible against Al Najma, the team sitting bottom of the table. And they only solved it when individual quality finally decided to show up.

The opening already brought a strange warning. Al Najma, with no fear at all, found space early on, especially down the left side of Al Nassr’s defence. Nothing hugely dangerous, but enough to show that the match was not going to be as automatic as expected. On the other side, Al Nassr had the ball, but they did not have ideas. They circulated possession, tried to use the flanks, but kept failing with the final pass. A lot of volume, very little quality.

And that started to become frustrating. The attacking play was predictable. There was no creativity, no connection, and against a team this fragile, that is simply not acceptable. There were shots and there were approaches, but they were almost always badly finished. And when you do not take control, you take risks.

In the 44th minute, the punishment arrived. After a messy sequence and poor defensive reactions, Al Najma scored and silenced the stadium. A goal that exposed everything: disorganisation, lack of concentration and a certain arrogance in the way Al Nassr were trying to control the match. And this is where opinion comes in: conceding to this opponent, at home, should not happen.

But if there is one thing this team has, it is the ability to respond immediately. Al-Hamdan scored in stoppage time and the equaliser came in an ugly, almost bundled kind of way, but it was enough to unlock the team emotionally. And right after that, in the 45+9th minute, Sadio Mané appeared with an individual action that ended with a bit of luck, but also real intent. In two minutes, the game had turned. And that is Al Nassr: even without playing well, they can solve things quickly.

The problem is that the second half began with another shock. Straight away in the 47th minute, Al Najma equalised again, taking advantage of space and some passive defending. And at that point, it was no longer just a surprise, it was a real issue. One thing is conceding a random goal, another is allowing two against a team like this.

The game then entered a strange phase, more open than it ever should have been. And that is when the defining moment arrived. In the 56th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo made it 3-2 from the penalty spot, with his usual composure. No real brilliance, just pure efficiency. And from that point on, you could feel the match finally beginning to fall the way it was always expected to.

Cristiano’s final blow came in the 73rd minute. A simple move, quick attack, and Ronaldo once again delivering the decisive moment. Composure, calmness and a clean finish for 4-2. A return with impact, exactly as he has conditioned us to expect.

At the end, Salem received the ball in stride, squared it to the far post and Mané tapped in for 5-2.

Post-match

An important win for Al Nassr, who keep the run going, but it still leaves some worrying signs, especially defensively. They cannot afford to underestimate opponents and “fall asleep.”
Cristiano Ronaldo returns and decides the game. Once again. Even without spectacle, he continues to be the difference-maker.
