PSG 5 – 4 Bayern | Analysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this PSG vs Bayern match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

There are big games and then there’s this. PSG vs Bayern, two teams at their peak and a semi-final that feels like a final in advance. And the truth is simple: the match promised a lot, but delivered even more.

The opening is deceptive. Controlled tempo, both sides studying each other, without the chaos many expected straight away. But it only took one moment to change everything. In the 15th minute, a foul inside the box on Luis Díaz. Clear penalty, the kind that comes from a forward’s intelligence. Kane steps up, looks, breathes and doesn’t miss. 0-1.

Bayern could have made it two almost immediately after, from a high recovery, with Kane setting up Olise, but Safonov reacts well. A warning sign.

PSG respond with pure talent. In the 25th minute, Kvaratskhelia gets the ball on the left, faces up, dribbles inside and curls it into the far corner. A world-class goal, no debate. 1-1.

From there, the game completely opens up. It becomes stretched, emotional, almost without control. In the 33rd minute, a well-delivered corner and João Neves, small among giants, attacks the space intelligently and heads it to the far post. 2-1. Bayern don’t disappear. In the 41st minute, Olise picks up the ball outside the box, drives forward unchallenged, enters the area and finishes with quality. Far too much space for a player like that. 2-2.

And when it looked like the half would end level, another key moment appears. In stoppage time, ball into the box, Davies with his arm out and the referee points to the spot. Dembélé steps up and makes it 3-2. An absolutely wild end to the first half.

The second half starts and doesn’t slow down at all. In the 56th minute, PSG accelerate again. Hakimi finds space, drives into the area and the ball falls to Kvaratskhelia who finishes. 4-2. Far too easy. Three minutes later, another blow. Perfect counter-attack, Doue carries, waits for the right moment and releases Dembélé, who cuts inside and shoots at the near post. It hits the post before going in. 5-2.

At that point, it felt done. But with this Bayern, it never is. In the 65th minute, wide free-kick, ball into the box and Upamecano rises highest. A soft header, but enough. Safonov could have done more. 5-3.

And in the 69th minute, the game explodes again. Kane receives, lifts his head and plays a perfect through ball. Luis Díaz controls with class, feints and finishes. 5-4 and suddenly PSG start to shake. Dropping back, under pressure, pinned in. Bayern believe, push, force.

But there’s one detail: PSG, even under pressure, still create danger. Near the end, Vitinha drives forward and sets up Mayulu, who hits the bar. That could have killed it.

In the end, it feels like a historic match. Chaotic, imperfect, but absolutely brilliant.

Post-match

PSG take the advantage, but nothing is decided. Going to Germany with just a one-goal lead against this Bayern is asking to suffer.
