Real Madrid have already played a few friendlies this pre-season, still without the big stars such as Mbappé and Bellingham. Vini Jr has only played half of one game and some new signings have not even played yet, such as Cucurella and Konaté. Even so, there is a clear problem that needs to be talked about.
First, the case of Rodri and the club’s “failure” to sign him, especially with him now being close to their rivals Barcelona. This was Florentino Pérez’s fault, as he never truly wanted the player. That is obvious. There are claims that Rodri never wanted Real Madrid, but none of that has been confirmed and it is difficult to believe, because the player would look very bad if he were using one club to get to another.
The real problem lies in Real Madrid’s defensive sector, and not just the centre-back line, but also the defensive midfielder, that organiser, someone in the style of Rodri, who simply does not exist in the squad. The centre-backs also have limitations with the ball. Huijsen can play out from the back reasonably well, but Rüdiger cannot, and worse, the partnership does not provide solidity. Konaté arrives to be a starter, that seems clear, because Rüdiger cannot continue as a starter.
Then you still have two injured centre-backs. Militão, who cannot be relied upon physically, and Raúl Asencio, who is limited.
So, Real Madrid have signed a lot of players, which obviously helps, but there are still clear problems in the deeper midfield and in defence. And then there is the attacking question: Vini Jr, Mbappé and Bellingham, nobody yet knows who will take the main role, the Batman of the team.
Conclusion
Real Madrid have obvious problems that need to be solved. The quality is there, but there are clear gaps on the pitch that remain unfilled, even after so many signings. I do not know whether the club will go back into the market, but it would make perfect sense.
