This prediction for Chelsea’s season may seem optimistic to some and, honestly, if you’re not optimistic, you’re wrong. It’s a new phase of the project, a phase where they seem to be putting a lot of trust in the new manager, Xabi Alonso. There has been heavy investment, some departures, yes, but everything seems more settled. One problem Chelsea still have is the absurd number of players, and that doesn’t make much sense because in the 2026/27 season they’ll only compete in the 3 domestic competitions.
I like Xabi Alonso. He left Real Madrid on top, even though he was sacked, because the football community understood that he didn’t work out at the Spanish club, but that it wasn’t entirely his fault. It was also down to the players’ inflated egos, with everyone wanting to be Batman and no one wanting to be Robin.
When it comes to the signings, there has been heavy investment in Morgan Rogers, £135 million, Lacroix, a centre-back I really like, Palestra, who was one of the standout performers in the last Serie A season, and then, although it’s funny, the signings of experienced players Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. I feel like they were brought in to be leaders in the dressing room, because there’s no way a 36-year-old Henderson still has a place to be a starter at Chelsea. I just can’t see it.
With only 3 competitions, I honestly think Chelsea will have a good Premier League campaign, better than another big club without European competitions, Tottenham.
With that, my prediction is:
Premier League → 4th
FA Cup → Round of 16
Carabao Cup → Quarter-finals
Conclusion
I see a future for Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea and the lack of European competitions will help a lot. I don’t expect any trophies, but I expect the club to be able to play Champions League football in the 2027/28 season.
