My prediction for Liverpool’s season isn’t positive, but I’m someone who believes in processes, and it’s important to understand that, if bad results and a bad season come, the project with Iraola has to continue.
I show some negativity towards the upcoming season because of a lack of time and investment. I like Iraola, but now, at a big club, he has to prove that he’s a coach capable of reinventing himself and that he knows what to do with possession, because being Liverpool’s manager is clearly different from being Bournemouth’s manager, without disrespecting Bournemouth.
Liverpool’s defense makes me very uncomfortable, and I feel like it could be an obvious problem when the manager likes to press high. It’s good that he does, but the defensive line could suffer a lot.
Will Szoboszlai have to be the firefighter again, or can he finally play in his preferred position? Will he have to move back to the right-back position, where he was sensational despite not being a full-back? Will Van Dijk be able to stay 100% physically fit throughout the season? We’re talking about a 35-year-old player playing in a high defensive line. And Araújo, who arrived on loan? He’s never exactly been a player known for feeling comfortable in a high defensive line.
The change of manager, from Slot to Iraola, was the right decision, but I see some serious problems in this Liverpool side, and I think the issue is much more about patience and time than anything else.
The right-wing position, left vacant by Salah, remains a question mark. Does Barcola, if he’s signed, solve that problem?
As you can see, there are too many questions, and I see some turbulence. With that, these are my predictions:
Premier League → 8th
FA Cup → Round of 16
Carabao Cup → Quarter-finals
Champions League → Knockout phase play-off
Conclusion
As you can see, I’m not very optimistic, but I think this is part of a normal process at a club that still has some very obvious problems. That said, I believe in the rebuild, just not this 2026/27 season.
