Arsenal 0 – 2 Man City | Analysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this Arsenal vs Man City match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

Final at Wembley, and what was expected to be balanced ended up being decided by the difference between control and the ability to hurt. Arsenal, consistent leaders but not very brilliant, faced a wounded Manchester City, still with enough quality to get the job done.

The first half confirmed the feeling: little spectacle, a lot of calculation. Arsenal tried to surprise with direct balls, almost always looking for Gyökeres and exploiting space behind the defense. It wasn’t pretty, but it was the only clear plan. And, truth be told, it created the best chances, forcing Trafford into early action.

On the other side, City had more of the ball, but it was sterile possession. Lots of circulation, little intent. The team looked restrained, unable to accelerate in the final third. Haaland was once again a spectator for long stretches, and when he did appear, it was more in physical battles than in finishing. In fact, there was a moment before halftime that sparked debate, with a clear pull inside the box that went unpunished.

The game went into the break goalless and, honestly, without many signs it would change. But it did, and quickly.

The second half brought a more aggressive City, higher up the pitch, pushing Arsenal back. In the 60th minute came the mistake that unlocked everything: a poorly dealt cross, an unbelievable error from Kepa, and O’Reilly took advantage. A gifted goal in a game that had been tight.

And when this City senses weakness, it doesn’t hesitate. Four minutes later, another move down the right, more dynamic, more aggressive, and again O’Reilly appeared, this time with a header, completely free. Two goals in four minutes that killed the final.

From there, the game changed. Arsenal tried to respond, had moments, even hit the woodwork, but always with the feeling that something was missing. Creativity, unpredictability, someone to take control and turn the game around. And that never came.

City, without needing to shine overall, did enough and was suffocating at the start of the second half. In the end, that was the difference: City, even in crisis, knows how to win. Arsenal, even consistent, still doesn’t know how to decide.

Post-match

An important title for Manchester City, especially given the context. It doesn’t erase the problems, but it brings oxygen and confidence.
Arsenal, on the other hand, confirms a pattern: competitive, solid, but short in decisive moments. It lacks that extra edge to turn consistency into titles.
