Do not understand this title as a way of softening Arsenal’s embarrassing FA Cup elimination against Southampton, a team that is in the Championship.
But we need to set limits and understand one thing: all this hype around Arsenal does come from the results and the consistency, especially defensively, but a lot of that was imposed by the British media, which is always looking for a “victim” to put maximum pressure on with the idea of the “Quadruple”: winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the same season.
In two games, that imposed dream went from four possible trophies to two. Arsenal lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City, another poor performance, and then got knocked out of the FA Cup. The problem is that this happens every season: the media keeps trying to force this Quadruple narrative, even though it has never happened in England. No English team has ever done it. Even so, every single year there is always one club being given that label.
And that creates absurd pressure. Any season that is not absolutely perfect immediately starts getting treated like a “disaster”.
The reaction from Arsenal fans to the defeat in the Carabao Cup final does not match the reality of the club. Trophies are trophies. Trying to downplay domestic cups makes no sense at all, Arsenal are still not at that level.
With this whole distorted mentality, there is a real scenario where Arsenal “only” win the Premier League and a lot of people will still treat that like a failure. That is absurd. It is simply stupid. And all of this starts with the media.
Arsenal have everything needed to win the Premier League. And that is where the real pressure should be. If they do not win it, then yes, there need to be serious changes, including Arteta, in my opinion, because offensively this team can give more, but his philosophy limits that.
Conclusion
The British media created a narrative where, if Arsenal did not win all four trophies, the season would be a failure, and that is pure nonsense.
Yes, it is embarrassing to lose to Southampton and to lose in that way against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. That is not up for debate. But if Arsenal win the Premier League, the season is not a failure.
Every season, the media tries to find a “victim” to place this absurd pressure on. But understand one thing: no English team has ever achieved the Quadruple. It is not easy. Not even close.
