Inter 5 – 2 Roma | Anaysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this Inter vs Roma match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

At the Giuseppe Meazza, Inter responded like league leaders. In a match that actually began in a balanced way, it ended up becoming a display of efficiency and attacking quality against a Roma side that did have its moments, but never had real control.

The game practically starts with a goal. In the 1st minute, quick build-up, the ball reaches Marcus Thuram on the right, he drives inside calmly, lifts his head and puts it into the six-yard box where Lautaro Martínez makes a great run, perfect timing, and taps in for 1-0. Simple, but very well done.

Roma did not fall apart. Quite the opposite, they grew into the game. They started taking more of the ball and pressed high. Little by little, they gained territory and began pushing Inter deeper. And then in the 40th minute, the equaliser arrived fairly: ball out on the left, run in behind, a driven cross into the six-yard area and Gianluca Mancini gets there first with a powerful header, no chance for the keeper. A goal built with real quality.

But just when it looked like the game would go into half-time level, the individual moment arrived. In the 45+2nd minute, Çalhanoğlu receives the ball outside the box, Roma give him too much space, and he lets fly. It was not just power, it was direction and precision. A brilliant goal that completely changed the feeling of the match. 2-1.

The second half was a different story. Inter came out with more intensity and decided things quickly. In the 52nd minute, perfect transition: Thuram wins his duel, drives forward and, at the right moment, releases it to Lautaro on the left. The Argentine, with time, bends his finish into the corner with real class. 3-1. Total composure. Three minutes later, another blow.

Cross from Çalhanoğlu and Thuram appears in the six-yard box, heads it with a lot of technique and makes it 4-1. At that point, it was no longer just efficiency, it was emotional and technical dominance. And it did not stop there. In the 63rd minute, a huge mistake in Roma’s build-up, high recovery and Barella finishes it off. First he tries to combine, it does not come off, the ball drops kindly and he calmly places it into the corner.

Roma did respond in the 70th minute, with a good individual action from Malen that ended with Pellegrini hitting it first time, low and curling, very well placed. A good goal, but too late.

Until the end, Inter controlled the game without needing to push. They managed the tempo, rotated pieces and let the clock run. Because the match was already over. And in the end, this game can be summed up very simply: when Inter accelerate, they decide. Roma can compete for stretches, but they cannot sustain it.

Post-match

A strong win for Inter, one that reinforces their lead and shows top-level attacking power whenever they are given space.
Roma did have some interesting moments, but defensively they were far too permissive. Against teams of this level, that gets punished heavily.
