Chelsea 0 – 3 Man City | Analysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this Chelsea vs Man City match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea started with some intent, but it was Manchester City who, when they truly decided to accelerate, settled everything in just a few minutes.

The first half was misleading. Chelsea, even with less possession, created the first situations. Nothing particularly clear, but more presence and more attacking approach. There was even a disallowed goal that exposed Manchester City’s defensive fragility at that moment. But the final touch was always missing.

On the other side, Manchester City had possession, but it was empty possession. A lot of sideways passing, very little depth. For long stretches, they looked too comfortable, almost switched off. And that kept the game balanced, despite the difference in quality. Still, you could feel that all it would take was one click.

And that click came right at the start of the second half. In the 50th minute, a move down the right, Cherki lifts his head and delivers a cross with perfect weight and precision. Nico O’Reilly attacks the space well, gets ahead of the defender and heads it accurately into the net. A simple finish, but perfectly timed. 0-1. And from that moment, the game completely changes.

Chelsea felt the impact, and Manchester City took advantage. In the 57th minute, another move with Cherki involved. He receives outside the box, drives forward with quality, beats two players and plays a perfect pass to Guéhi. He controls while turning and finishes calmly. Total composure for 0-2.

Two goals in seven minutes. The game practically decided.

And when it seemed like Manchester City might slow down, another one comes. In the 68th minute, a clear mistake in Chelsea’s build-up. Moisés Caicedo tries to play out without precision, loses the ball and Doku makes no mistake. He drives forward quickly, enters the box and finishes with confidence. 0-3.

Manchester City then take full control. Long spells of possession, calm circulation, even moments of “olé” from the crowd. And that says a lot: Chelsea stopped competing.

There is a clear difference between not being able to and giving up. And in the final stretch, Chelsea looked closer to the second. Offensively, they almost disappeared. A few long-range attempts, but no real danger. Nothing that truly disturbed City’s control.

Chelsea had their moments, but football is not played in moments. It is played in consistency. And there, the difference was huge.

Post-match

A clear win for Manchester City, built in just a few minutes of high-quality football. Chelsea showed signs early on, but completely collapsed after the first goal.
