Al Shabab 2 – 4 Al Nassr | Analysis

Portuguese Portugal

In this Al Shabab vs Al Nassr match, I analyse the key tactical moments, individual performances and turning points of the game.

There are matches that start perfectly and then force you to prove you are truly contenders. This was exactly that for Al Nassr. A brilliant start. In the 3rd minute, everything simple and effective. Mané creates space down the left, crosses, the Al Shabab defence completely fail to clear it, two players go for the ball, nobody deals with it, and it falls perfectly for Félix. Facing goal, no pressure, volleyed finish. 0–1. The ideal start.

And before the game could settle, another blow. In the 10th minute, quick build-up, a floated ball into the box and Félix appears again. The header is strange, almost from no angle, it even looks like a flick towards the middle, but it goes in the perfect direction and nestles inside the far post. 0–2.

Al Nassr looked in complete control. They were defending better than in the previous match and still creating danger, largely because of the left side with Mané constantly involved. But there is always that moment that changes the rhythm. In the 30th minute, a pure mistake. An unbelievable loss of possession in midfield, an attempted foul that fails and Carrasco takes advantage. He drives forward, cuts inside and finishes with quality. 1–2.

And from there, everything changes. Al Shabab grow in confidence, believe, push higher up the pitch. They are no longer just reacting, they start competing properly in the match. Before half-time, there is even a shot off the crossbar that perfectly reflects the shift in momentum. Al Nassr, who looked comfortable, enter a much more unstable phase.

The second half confirms it. Al Shabab come out better, more aggressive, more present in the attacking half. Al Nassr lose intensity, start dropping too deep and keep the match alive. There are real dangerous moments, shots, constant approaches. The feeling is obvious: the equaliser is close.

But these are the moments when big teams have to show up. And Al Nassr did. In the 75th minute, a well-worked move, calm and patient. Félix switches play, Mané receives on the left, lifts his head and finds Cristiano in the right place. Low pass, perfect timing and a simple first-time finish. 1–3. A goal worth more than it seems, because it stops the opponent’s best spell and restores emotional control.

But even then, the game does not close. In the 80th minute, another major defensive mistake. The line is poorly set, nobody tracks the run, the ball goes into the box and Al-Bulaihi appears completely alone. He stretches to poke it in. 2–3 and once again everything is open.

Al Nassr are forced to deal with pressure again, with the fear of dropping points at a decisive moment in the season. The match becomes stretched, nervous, full of rushed decisions and little organisation.

Then, deep into stoppage time, the final moment. A foul inside the area, a clear penalty. In the 97th minute, Félix steps up, strikes it with confidence and seals the game. 2–4. A hat-trick and, more than that, a statement in a game where control was never truly complete.

Because Al Nassr showed quality, but they also showed they still suffer too much when put under pressure.

Post-match

A mandatory win, achieved, but far from comfortable. Al Nassr remain top, but with signs of fragility that could prove costly.
